Wesley Edens has a lot of experience in business leadership. He began his professional life as a partner and Managing Director of Lehman Brothers, a role which he held from 1987 to 1993. He has served at a number of companies in high-level leadership positions since the early 90s. He co-founded Fortress Investment Group LLC in 1998 along with his partners Peter Briger, Jr, Robert Kauffman, Randal Nardone, Michael Edward, and Novogratz. He is its current Private Equity Chief Investment Officer, Principal, President of Private Equity, Head of Private Equity and Co-Chairman.

Last year the Japanese company, SoftBank Group Corp. bought Fortress for $3.3 billion.SoftBank is an investment company whose primarily makes technology-based investments. Following the acquisition, very little changed with the inner workings of Fortress. Wesley remained Chairman of the Board. In addition, the entire executive and management team of Fortress was unaltered. Most of the outside professionals who provided some kind of service to Fortress still did so. Edens has said the only real thing that has changed with how they do things is that they don’t have to do earnings calls anymore.

SoftBank is led by its founder, Masayoshi Son. In his roles dealing with private equity he also deals with publicly traded alternatives. He is also the current co-owner of Milwaukee Bucks, Inc. This is not his only sports-related venture. Last year he also led Fortress to launch FlyQuest, an eSports franchise. ESports are catching on in both accessibility and popularity. The first of these has naturally resulted in the second. At one time eSports were only available on personal computers. Now you can access them on mobile devices. So Edens got Fortress in on the profitable act. FlyQuest will have a number of different eSports available, and allow several teams to compete in all of those activities at the same time.
